Derby College Group (DCG) is proud to lead the East Midlands Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC), a specialist initiative focused entirely on raising the quality and relevance of construction education across the region. Designed to respond directly to skills shortages within the construction industry, the CTEC places DCG at the centre of a regional network of providers and employers, working collaboratively to deliver high-quality, future-focused training.

At the heart of the CTEC are DCG’s industry-standard construction facilities, particularly at Broomfield Hall and the Roundhouse. These include fully equipped workshops and realistic site environments covering key trades such as brickwork, carpentry and joinery, plastering, plumbing and electrical installation. Learners benefit from hands-on, practical training using professional tools, materials and methods, ensuring they develop the skills and confidence required on real construction sites. Increasingly, the curriculum also integrates modern construction methods, sustainability principles and green technologies to reflect the evolving needs of the sector.

A key strength of the CTEC is its strong partnership with local and regional construction employers. DCG works closely with housebuilders, contractors, SMEs and supply chain businesses across the East Midlands to co-design training programmes that meet real workforce demands. These partnerships provide valuable opportunities for learners, including industry placements, apprenticeships and direct progression into employment. Employers are also actively involved in shaping curriculum content, ensuring that learners are equipped with the most relevant and up-to-date skills.
